Resin Kit: 1/100 AGX-04 Gerbera Tetra - Unboxing and Dryfit Build

A few weeks after getting my first resin kit, the 1/100 Kshatriya, I got another resin kit. This time its the 1/100 AGX-04 Gerbera Tetra from SMS Workshop. This is the full kit version and SMS Workshop included the conversion parts for the AGX-04A1 Gerbera Tetra Kai. SMS Workshop earlier released the Gerbera Tetra Kai as a conversion kit and has a few differences with the Gerbera Tetra's body design.

The Gerbera Tetra is a pretty small kit and the box it comes in is about half the size of a standard MG kit's box. No box art and the only indication of what you are getting is a label on the side of the box.

Opening the box, the first thing to greet us is the manual with a full color printout of the Gerbera Tetra. The design really reminds me of Samus Aran from Metroid. Unwrapping the bubblewrap gets us to the first parts bag that includes a card from SMS Workshop that has the kits serial no. on it.

Along with the manual, a decal sheet and four gloss photos of the Gerbera Tetra are included. The two photos with the red kit are that of the AGX-04. The two black and white ones are that of the AGX-04A1. The kit is a bit small and comes with about 60 pieces.

The Gerbera Tetra's quality is quite good. Not too many surface imperfections on the large and medium size pieces. It also comes with metal thrusters that will need a bit of assembly.

Pour plugs are decent in size and it won't take a lot of work to clean up. Now one thing I noticed on the kit is there are some misalignment on a lot of smaller pieces.

Just like my Kshatriya, I did a dryfit build. The Gerbera Tetra doesn't have a lot of long pegs and deep holes. Instead it has small protrusions where pins are needed and shallow holes that mark the location of pinholes The Gerbera Tetra is a static pose kit. There are no articulations. The shoulder will allow the arms to be raised forward or back and twisted left or right. But that's mainly for the final arm position and not really changeable anytime. It also comes with head design for Char's use or Cima's use. I chose Char's version.

I had to do some modifications on the shoulder armor (last photo) to accommodate for the conversion parts of the Gerbera Tetra Kai.

The kit comes with two types of shoulder binders. The ones below are the for the AGX-04 Gerbera Tetra.

The ones above are the conversion parts for the AGX-04A1 Gerbera Tetra Kai. Well, the upper half at least. I forgot to take a photo of the whole shoulder binder before gluing it to the shoulder armor. The conversion parts don't really fit into anything on the shoulder armor and just "sit" there with glue on the final build. The conversion parts are quite heavy and relying on a small contact point with a bit of glue doesn't feel like a good idea. That's why I had to modify the shoulder armor to accommodate for pinning and increase the surface area the conversion parts can adhere to while still being able to use the original shoulder binders on the shoulder armor if I choose to change versions.

Completing the dryfit build, choosing between the Gerbera Tetra and the Gerbera Tetra Kai is really tough. Both kits look really awesome.

Painting can now begin.
