In Part 2, I showed the differences between the three main Evas. Now I will show the difference that the Eva-04 Production Type and the Eva-05 Mass Production Type have with the other Evas. Both these Evas did not appear in the first anime.
Let's start with the Eva-04 Production Unit. This model Eva did not appear in the Anime was mentioned to have exploded in the base it was being kept in so no one saw what it looked like. Now according to Gainax, the Eva-04 is pretty much identical to the Eva-03 Production Type but uses a silver color scheme with red and white accents. So in the kit, its pretty much just a recolored Eva-03 in all ways. It has the same standard chest armor and shoulder pylons as the Eva-02.
In my opinion, the Eva-04's head, just like the Eva-03's and Bardiel's, are the best looking of all the Eva Units. Probably because it resembles the human head the most.
In weapons, the Eva-04 doesn't have the shoulder mounted rifle that the Eva-03 kit has. Instead it has a modified positron rifle that resembles the one that the Eva-01 has.
The chrome color on the Eva-04 is poorly done. It will easily scratch or rub off. Its a kit from 1997, so you can't really expect much and its an HG.
My last Eva is the Eva-05 Mass Production Type. This Eva from the chest up is a completely different design from the other Eva Units.
The upper torso is a lot slimmer. The chest armor still resembles the standard design but is smaller. The back has been significantly reduced and since the Eva-05 uses a dummy plug system, the plug entry has been reduced to the fin like protrusion at the top of the back. The Eva-05 is also self-powered so the power socket in the back has been removed.
The arms are also slimmed down and no longer use shoulder pylons. The arms on this kit are made of plastic and don't have a joint.
Another major change on the design is the head. The head has been changed to more of a snake-like or eel-like design with a huge mouth and no visible eyes. Since this head can't move, the Eva-05 has two set of heads.The first is for a straight up standing stance.
The second one is designed for the Eva-s usual slouched stance and is pointing up. The pose make the Eva-05 look like its leering at something. A very creepy stance but looks very good.
For weapons, the Eva-05 only has one. And that is a giant double-ended broad sword. its a huge sword which it taller than the Evas.
Perhaps the most unique feature that the Eva-05 has are its wings. Since the Eva-05 no longer needs to be hardwired to a power source, its long distance mobility has greatly increased and the first thing they add are the wings which somehow retract into its back. That happens in the anime, not the kit.
The Eva-05 kit's wing span is 20" and the length of the tail is 7". Due to the tail's length and position on the back, the Eva-05 can't stand up straight with the wings on. To wear the wings it has to be in the slouched stance with the leering head. Surprisingly, the eva-05 can balance itself perfectly with the wings on.
I mentioned before that this is the first version of the Eva-05 Mass Production Type. There is a final version which is very hard to find now. The differences between the two versions are on the final one, the arms are made the same way as the other Eva kits; made of vinyl and bendable with an internal frame, and the head is also made of vinyl with an internal frame that allows the neck to move and the mouth to open and close.
